Spitfire reg MJ627 has suffered engine failure & was put down in a field.

Out of Biggin Hill. Pilot & passenger out ok thankfully.

I wonder if that was a fee paying passenger. Well they can't say they weren't given once in a lifetime ride! eek

Glad everyone is ok and the aeroplane looks relatively intact.

Glad they got out ok.

Was that a gear up landing, or has it gone awol?

In a field I would guess gear up. Expensive but not as bad as possibly flipping over.

It looks like the prop was still turning when it landed, and the eyewitnesses did not mention engine failure just that it was circling.. Could a Spitfire prop be fully feathered in the event of engine failure, and would the pilot do that?

Please note two points:- I am by no means expert and eyewitnesses are notoriously unreliable.

The eye witness seemed to be saying there were two planes; one circling, one landed.

That's not far from me. They tend to overfly the Battle of Britain Memorial at Caple Le Fern .
We get almost daily flybys of historical aircraft.
