The Old Warden based Avro Triplane replica crashed into trees during yesterday's display. The pilot is fine. No reports of the extent of the damage, but given that the pilot is OK and the original was crashed and repaired repeatedly there's presumably a good chance it can be rebuilt.

Someone sent me this earlier. I went to Shuttleworth in March with a car club for a visit and saw the Triplane in the hangar.

Looked like a fairly gentle coming down as far as you can see from video. Wonderful aircraft so let's hope the damage isn't serious.

Sad to hear. Pilot is apparently OK and I hope they can repair the Triplane.

Even though it's a replica (built for the film "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines"), it displays the typical poor handling characteristics of these Edwardian era designs.

Seeing the Edwardians fly is always a highlight of our visits to Old Warden. Good to know the pilot is OK and hope the Avro is back in the air in the not too distant future.

I was there yesterday but left before the incident. Seems like engine failure resulted in a forced landing. Glad no injuries occurred

There is a fair bit of damage evident in the Elliot Jefferies photo over on PPRuNe. How much of this is the result of the accident, and how much was getting the pilot out of the tree, remains to be seen (no pun intended!).
Given that the pilot is safe, I hope that the engine is also generally ok and that repairs are a largely a case of replacing damaged wood and fabric.
