Video of the landing seems to show a very late touch down but also looked like they only had 1 main gear down due to the cross wind. (edit to add when I say down I mean with contact on the runway)

You can sort of see it might be wheelbarrowing down the runway on the nosegear. If there's no weight on the main gear AFAIK on 767 spoilers and reversers will not deploy until main gear triggers weight on wheels sensor.WoW? It sure looks like the reversers are stowed for the roll out.

Penny should have dropped when they were heading nose down and too high and too fast as they crossed the airport perimeter looking at that video........or probably called a GA way before that.......after or before they came through that violent weather cell on approach.I was just a few miles down the road yesterday in Miami when this happened, and was delayed leaving by over four hours while the scene was dealt with and rescue/fire fighting capabilities were re-established (as well as the aircraft we were flying back arriving in to Miami, having diverted to Orlando as a result).

That, couple with a potential case of 'get-in-itis', which has a knock on effect of missing checks and actions such as observing approach stability in terms of speed and configuration, arming systems like ground spoilers and potentially forgetting to select reverse thrust on landing, all add up to this end result.
Not saying this was the case at all, but from LiveATC, it seems the aircraft wasn't suffering from any abnormal conditions requiring assistance (until after the event, obvs).

If you look back they were doing >220kts at 2500ft. Thats around the time they would have been on finals.
They only lost 40kts over the next 2000ft and were at c.180kts at 500ft. Just too fast and no wonder it floated.
I appreciate they throw flap and gear at the airflow for drag at the last minute but this was too fast from the start right too the end.
The conditions clearly did not help - but the 100s of other flights that day were all ok. I suspect they were behind the curve from several minutes before they touched down.

As always it will be a case of holes in the Swiss cheese lining up, but it’ll be interesting to see whether ATC helped put some of those holes there for them. It wouldn’t be unusual to be set up for one approach and ATC to have other ideas and throw you onto another at the last minute.

I did wonder if the pilot felt under pressure by the huge storm behind him, and didn't want to go around and get caught in it which over-rode his normal judgement.Crumpet said:
