Not yet. The derogation on red diesel has finished, which means that we have to fall in line with Europe. But we have bought some time by saying that we need to set up the systems to implement the changes, and work out how it is all going to work!! We are still selling red diesel, and the pump price is currrently £0.68p per litre, which is about average for the area.
I think that eventually we will end up with something approaching the forecourt pump price here!

Surely with the UK climate you are using 50% of the fuel for heating no?
A lot use solid fuel heating, but yes, it is also use for heating.- Oddly, some heaters stuggle with red, so its not unheard of to use the clearer white (taxed) fuel for the heater and red for propulsion.

Sorry to necro the thread.
There is a letter from HMRC to RDCO (Registered Dealers Controlled Oils) which tells them how to deal with sales to private pleasure craft.
Red diesel can still be used for propulsion providing the full fuel duty is paid. However fuel used for domestic purposes, eg heating, or generating electricity on board will be exempt.
It appears HMRC will require RDCOs to ask each customer to make a signed declaration at point of sale what % of the fuel they have bought will be for domestic use. It seems that declarations up to 25% will be below the radar.
Of course in the colder months, and particularly sailing yachts, the % for domestic could be much higher than this, eg a 2.2kw Eberspächer claims to use only 0.28 litres per hour, but some have been seen to use much more than that on full welly, so it might be worth an investigation into your own circumstances after Nov 1 to prove the declarations.

And the number of people i know with 1000gallon tanks of red diesal s just still.
Its somthing to be into tho.
- At the biggining of they year i filled 60l tank for £50 (road petrol) now struggling to get 50l for £60.
If i had bought fuel with the £5k i have in the bank it would now be worth £7200. Instead its worth £5300!

update.
Further to my post above, HMRC will accept a declaration when you buy red diesel from Nov1 that a 60/40 split of propulsion/domestic use and you will not be required to keep accurate records to prove that level of usage.
It will be possible to declare other splits of usage, eg residential owners will be able to claim 0% for propulsion and 100% domestic but records will have to be kept.
A copy of the full HMRC briefing notice is on the Motor Boating Monthly website.
