Eurofighter Typhoon Vs F22
Discussion
Ok not sure if this has been covered or not, i was curious..... which plane is more agile/manuverable? which would be better in a dog fight? is one much more technically advanced than the other? I know we have the best pilots (RAF) but has it got to the point with these planes that the role of the pilot is somwhat secondary, i.e. the computers are doing all the work, Pilots are just along for the ride and to unleash the weapons on the targets?
incidently, was just watching some footage of the Eurofighter and it looked majestic!!!
cheers

Modern fighter tactics these days is to engage BVR (Beyond Visual Range) and I would say they are both pretty capable in that department.
The F-22 production run is going to be fairly small and the USAF are more interested in using it as a ground attack aircraft now.

The americans are on the cutting edge where missile development is concerned, so I would be betting on th F22, not necicaraly because its a better fighter, but its likely to have superior weapons.Modern fighter tactics these days is to engage BVR (Beyond Visual Range) and I would say they are both pretty capable in that department.

Depends on the role.
F22 has a much lower radar and IR signature than the Tiffie, which means that it'll be closer when you finally detect it.
Better engines (supercruise capability) and bigger fuel capacity mean it'll also have a much longer range / time-on-station.
Re: agility? If either plane needs to use it, it's failed in it's primary mission (Air Superiority), but AIUI the Tiffie will be better there...be interested to see how much the thrust-vectoring adds to the turn-rate of the F22 though...or even the roll-rate if used asymmetrically...not heard much about that, which either means it's crap or it's fantastic!!!
As an overall weapons platform, the radar and missiles will have more effect. Meteor is a great piece of kit and seems to have the edge over AMRAAM, which surely is due for replacement soon. Don't know about their radars, both will be very good but the F22 has space for a larger array which could give it the edge there...US have more money to throw at tech too...
Secondary (attack/strike) roles? F22 will be more survivable I would imagine, and probably quite hard to catch up to in a stern-chase or rear-angle approach.

Will this be as a whole new variant as with the F-15 or will the existing design be used? Anyway, I thought the idea was to use the cheaper and older planes like the F-15 and F-35 for ground attack and keep the top-of-the-range plane for air superiority? Or is air superiority a redundant role now?I've only ever flown them both in my dreams and X-plane-8.
Assuming they've been programmed with corect physical parameters, the Typhoon is scarily manoeverable.
I prefer the way the Raptor aesthitically looks though with its concealed weapons and 'stealthy' appearance, I also found the F22 dash board and altitude/direction computer more used friendly (again-assuming it was a faithful representation).

all of this is redundent as if the onbord pc's wernt working both of these planes would be as areodyanmic as a brick because they are both fly-by-wire and in my opinion the only plane that can stand up against the F-22 in agilty is the Su-37 terminator even then i think the F-22 would tip the scales as it has more ordanace then the Su-37

nice of you to make an appearence andy, new this thread would be to your liking.Eric Mc said:

if it aint a ground attack plane why then can it carry2× AIM-120 AMRAAM and
2× AIM-9 Sidewinder and one of the following:
2× 1,000 lb (450 kg) JDAM or
2× Wind Corrected Munitions Dispensers (WCMDs) or
8× 250 lb (110 kg) GBU-39 Small Diameter Bombs
