Evening all.

Having spent a lot of time recently on a friends narrowboat I've started looking at the idea of selling my house and getting a narrowboat. The boat I have experience of is just a leisure boat, and as such is basically just a big saloon. Is there anyone who lives aboard near Banbury or Daventry that would let me come up and have a chat and a nose about your home? I know there is a marina up near Crick, but I'd rather talk to someone who lives out and about, as I would want to spend as much time as possible cruising the waterways. If there's no-one near me, anyone got any recommendations of people to go and chat to? Oh, I'm also 6'3", just how hard would life be for me? Most boats I can stand upright in, but my feet will overhang just about every bed I've ever slept in!

I have a residential narrowboat, currently moored in Cosgrove, nr Milton Keynes. Am moving her down to London in the next week or so, but I'd be more than happy to offer advice and help, as I swapped my stupid house / mortgage for a narrowboat a while ago. It's the best thing I've ever done! It's not for everyone - you need to be very practically minded and a good sense of humour is a must! Toilets WILL fill up at the worst possible moment (parties, etc!), water and gas will run out when you want a shower at 2am, and the fire will die on a Sunday when the shops are shut early and you've forgotten to restock the firelighters... You get the idea! But... I wouldn't swap the peace, tranquiity, pure joy of feeding the swans from the kitchen window, and the community spirit with fellow boaters for all the manor houses in England!

PM me if you want more info, or want to join us part of the way from MK to London!
