How the hell does a private individual get permission for a missile defence?

It is hard enough to get a concealed firearm permit in many places.

Still all that and I bet some guy that rows around on a surfboard with a piece of old drift wood can get on board. Sometimes found selling bananas by day!!!.

He's registered it as a naval vessel. It's listed on our inventory as "CVA01" and will be called HMS Queen Elizabeth in time of war. Defence cuts. wink

This isn't a weapon system; he isn't going to start shooting at things. wink

It defensive systems such as IR Flares and Chaff to fool IR and Radar guided missiles respectively. It t probably also includes some form of EW suite; radio jammers and the like.

I read elsewhere that it will include ex SAS soldiers to make up the security staff.

I heard Eclipse comes with a special detachment of ninja-dolphins, trained to attack terrorist frogmen and fetch fresh fish for the BBQ.
No it's a detachment of "frickin' sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their frickin' heads."

"Why?" is a more logical question.
I think because he can is the obvious answer lol

What with pirates getting more ruthless nowdays, the water and noise cannons dont work anymore.

If they want to shoot him with a missile they can just wait until he is on one of his four other yachts which don't have "missile defence", or one of his helicopters which doesn't have "missile defence", or one of his 'planes that doesn't have "missile defence", or one of his cars which doesn't have "missile defence", or one of his houses which doesn't have "missile defence" or his football club which doesn't have "missile defence"... You get the idea.
Possibly these others have missile defences which haven't been reported in a glossy magazine or discussed on the intereb? You know, like most missile defences.

Why did he build it the exact same length as Stamford Bridge? Why does it have an unarmoured explosive door on the bottom of the hull for escape?

Building boats at this level is all about topping the other guy. Builds have been stopped at massive cost and delay to extend the hulls just so they can be bigger than so-and-so's boat. It's all a pi55ing contest, pure and simple.

Having said that - the guy isn't exactly short of enemies, so you can kind of see his point, though as mentioned, if you want to get at him it wouldn't exactly be hard while he's at a match, rather than on an armoured hulled, missile defended, and private ex-SF secured megayacht.
