Hello all,

So I'm thinking of starting my PPL. Currently, I'm in the process of trying to decide which school to go with. As I live between Barton, Manchester and Blackpool I've got a few options.

So far I've visited Westair at Blackpool and LAC at Barton. Of course, both seem reasonably friendly and are willing to take my money from me.

Currently, I like the idea of LAC as the aircraft are reasonably new and the use of a grass strip would make things alittle more interesting.

Does anyone have any experience with either school? Are there some common questions I should ask?

Any help appreciated.

Simple general rule, go where you feel the most comfortable.

The main things are;
1) Aircraft availability.
2) Do you like the Instructor?
3) Is the instructor going to be there for more than 5 minutes.
4) How experienced is the Instructor?
5) Make sure you stick to one FI all the way through, no chopping and changing, it totally screws your progress.

I don't know much about the 2 schools, but neither has a rubbish rep in the training industry.

I have been an FI for 10 years and a CFI for 5, so if you want any pointers, give me a shout.

I learnt at ANT (air navigation and trading) at blackpool and cannot recommend them enough, and I have tried a few others at blackpool and they were the best although I haven't tried westair, they were always booked up and i prefered the pa28 to a cessna. Also check the prices on landing fees at blackpool from when i was there last they were getting expensive, more so when you will be doing circuits. Plus there is a good bit of commercial traffic at blackpool, and going round in circles for 5-10 minutes waiting for a 737 land isn't fun when it's costing you.
