Fellow PH BoatHeads

We're doing the Mark Foy Trophy in Carnac which starts in a month...it promises to be the biggest gathering of 18 footers in over 100 years of racing, and is attracting teams from Australia and the USA as well as a big European contingent. It's the first time the event has been run in Europe and it's the pinnacle of world dinghy sailing. For those not familair with what is the F1 of sailing, here's some action from the USA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEA1HWbZJpA , Australia http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxN33qW-n4E&fea... and the UK http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OM6Y7972OaE

At present we are entirely self funding the campaign, due to the fact that our boat was already fully branded by it's previous Australian sponsor, SP Systems, when it was imported to the UK a few years ago and subsequently acquired by us. We simply did not have time to take the boat off the water for a complete strip down, respray and new sails (we have day jobs too!), however we have just unexpectedly upgraded to a newer, unbranded boat which we will be racing from this point forward. So the opportunity is now there for a company to get involved with the most exciting form of sailboat racing in the world today.

We'll be honest...we're not going to win this one! This is the first year we've been racing as a team in this class, and even the new boat is still worth a fraction of the top teams highly sponsored boats (think second hand Cityrover verus new 3 series!), but we've got a spattering of talent aboard (current 12' skiff National Champion steering) and besides, everyone loves the underdog! But if you fancy your "company boat" lining up alongside the likes of "General Electric", "Avaya", "Investec Private Bank", "Panasonic" "DeLonghi" and "Omega Smeg" for a contribution to our event costs (ferry, accomodation, entry fee, diesel, and food) and the cost of branding the boat up with your logos, please drop me a PM or reply below. There's going to be massive coverage in the yachting and sporting press and some great opportunities for publicity shots and the like which I'd be delighted to chat about.

Now the grovelly bit! Mods...please don't bin this thread on the basis of "commercial interest"...this is about three ordinary guys running a campaign on a shoestring and going to have a pop at top level competition and just seeing if we can use the networking power of the PH collective! Thanks!

Iain

Ex GBR41 "SP Systems"

Have you bought a new boat Iain?

We are also going to the same event in either 18ft skiff formerly "ericsson" or "swordfish":

We also have the current 12ft skiff national champion on board one of the boats so if anyone fancies sponsoring us too then pls pm me also, anything considered, anything will help us get to this event. If we work it like formula 1 sponsorship the most expensive advertising space on our boat will be on the daggerboard as that will get most airtime! We have absolutely no aspirations of finishing anywhere other than last but will have fun trying.
Anyway, Ericsson has undergone a refit this winter and is therefore a blank canvas for your corporate branding (probably best if you work for tango/orangina though)!

Yep, we've got the boat that was Helly Hansen. Fully pimped, but need to swap the carbon big rig with SP Systems.

Cool, is it a lot better than Sp, how does it differ? Is the rig any better?

Newer, fairer, fully sorted, proper gantry, better foils, probably lighter, kickbars, perfect nets, box trailer and better sails. Tin 1 rig though hence swap needed!

Have you thought about approaching a local brewery? Both Tiger Beer and Brewerkz out here are very generous with sponsorship in order to get thier logo's on the Spin.

Just thinking about this - what sort of stickers are used for sails? I would imagine they would need to be considerably more durable than a car wrap for example.

I realise that these sorts of sails (Mylar etc) are not flexing as much as conventional sails, but the environment they are in, and the abuse they get will really take its toll.

Where could I get some more info on the type of sticker material as I am interested in something like this...
