Sitting in my garden over the weekend and heard the whistle of twin jet engines, moving fast, at low altitude - my ears pricked up because we normally only get the Cessna type bug smashers and Police Chopper from Shoreham round here.

Stood up and caught a glimpse of something slightly to the South, travelling Eastwards, at <1000ft. It was a classic twin engined wing-mounted fighter jet.

Moving too fast to really see what it was - I did notice the tailplane was distinctly 1940s - but that was all I caught before it was obscured by the trees. Too small to be a Canberra, and I doubt it was an Me262, so assuming it was a Meteor - but I didn't think any were flying?

Anyone know what it was?

There are 4 flying in the UK and 1 in Australia. Martin Baker still operate 2 Meteors out of Chalgrove. There's an NF11 flying here with Air Atlantique too and the F8 in Australia.

There are two new build flying 262s as well - one in Germany and one in the USA.
