I've just been made redundant and before attempting to jump straight back into the rat race I was thinking about doing a long passage or delivery trip. I know there are a few yotters on PH so I wanted to see "how it works" and see if people have any recommendations or experiences.

I'm 35, sailed all my life and now mainly race dinghies and 18 foot skiffs, but I've got a few thousand miles offshore, I hold an ICC, DI, PB3 and I have skippered bareboat charters. I'd obviously like the trip to be as cost neutral as possible, can you expect to get fed on a delivery trip, or even get some beer money? Or do I need to invest a few quid in Day/Coastal skipper or for a long trip are skippers more interested in experience rather than paperwork, and what you are like as a person and how you would fit into the team?

I know there are a few agencies/forums out there, are they worth the joining fee or is doing some networking a better idea?

I'd welcome any advice, thanks in advance!

Have a look at the ybw forums - there do seem to be opportunities for this sort of thing, as few people have the time. Experience more important than quals by the looks of it.
