If I had the money, what is currently for sale that fits the bill ? Must be available for sale for civilian use, if not actully permitted to fly.

Depends on what amazes you, doesn't it?

Do you go for big swanky plush biz jets or do you go for classic and historic warbirds?

I was more thinking something ex military I guess. Just something that may surprise you as being for sale, rather than just a mega expensive business jet which anyone could buy new. Anything currently on the market.

Classic warbirds are always up for sale - so you might be able to pick up a Mustang or a Spitfire for around £1 million.

What you won't see often are more modern jets.

Something like a Phantom or Starfighter very rarely comes up for sale and very few countries will certify such aircraft for civilian use.

Not sure what happened if a buyer was found or not but the Tu-144 SST that NASA had leased for testing was being sold with full support from Tupolev a few years back - http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/en/doc/2001-05/19/con...

Edited to add, not sold and being restored to display according to this - http://www.tu144sst.com/latestnews.html

phone Hello is that Birt. Burt Rutan. Yes good. I'd like a plane that can go into space and also cook me a great roast dinner. 2013? Well ok then.

A TU-160 Blackjack would be nice.

Or even a TU-22 Backfire.

True, military and unlikely to be ever certified for civilian use but after this....
