The world's fastest cabriolet

I call b
ks on this one. I'd love to be proved wrong as it sounds like superb russian madness - but I don't believe you could really do - what - 1400mph in an open cockpit? Would the plane actually do mach 2 without a cockpit - i would have thought that the aerodynamics would be rather compromised?

Not quite so fast...
That is part of a the whole series from some 2005 Russian movie called Mirror wars or something similar in translation, see full complement of photos at this link.
The movie trailer is here (you get a couple of glimpses of canopyless su-35 in flight)
The canopy free flight is real, it made it onto airliners.net way back in 2005 when the movie was being made, even if mach 2 claims seem more like vodka enhanced stories, but the ejection was done on an SU-7UB trainer on the ground mocked up to look like the Su-35 prototype, you can tell by the tail fin and lack of canards amongst other things. I presume the editing in the movie and maybe some after effects takes care of the rest. Not sure why there is a photoshopped ejection photo floating around but here's the ground test the photo was probably fudged from.

On a related note the Russians stole the idea (as usual
) from the Americans (although the 'ragtop' F-14 is the result of an accidental ejection rather than deliberate plot, story here) it's actually happened many times in many types of aircraft but this one is probably the most famous as there was a picture of it in flight, plenty of people still call photoshop though
