Anyone using the new Gamin 695?

Just bought one and highly delighted. It seems fantastic for GA users, with lots of enhanced features to make life easier and reduce workload.

US safety review of 696 here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qN9uXuNeggo

Or, if you prefer English http://www.looptv.aero/LTVCategory60/820/GARMIN695...

And prices are coming down. They were around £2,200 earlier this year, now just over £1,800 due to stronger uk£.

GPS?

What's wrong with a good 1:500,000 topo chart, ruler and pencil and a CRP-5? hehe

Yep, they're brilliant in a classroom where time and space are not an issue.

But they're pretty hopeless when you've got a collective in one hand and a cyclic in the other and you'd rather be looking where you're going wink

The Pitts has a Garmin Pilot III wired into it, and when I'm flying a transit I generally have a Garmin GPSMap 96 stuck to the sequence card holder. The Yak has a GPSMap 196. More than enough for VFR bimbling (and yes, the half mil chart is the primary navigation reference - I highly recommend the Memory Map CAA charts - I've used MM to generate bound map-books for some of the longer trips, much easier to deal with in a confined cockpit than wrestling with three half-mil charts).

The 695 looks like an enormous chunk of plastic - I doubt anything that in anything I fly regularly there would be room for it.

Still, it *is* a gadget though, and gadgets are good.

Yup - bought it at Aeroexpo so got it for a more reasonable £1620 with free flight planning software thrown in (NavBox Pro Plan).

I have been incredibly impressed with all aspects of the 695 - IFR & VFR. The terrain clearances page, vertical nav profiles, NDB and VOR features are my most used in conjunction with the mapping.

Very easy to use and some neat features. As it comes with a Yoke mount, space is not a problem - it fits just in front of the control column (unless you have a stick!)

I would definitely buy Nav Box though - it makes planning very quick and straight forward.. You can then upload directly to the GPS in a matter of seconds.
