Following on from the thread about aircraft mistakes I thought I'd start one on railways, particularly when film makers simply use a bit of stock film of some or other steam engine without any regard for what it is, how old it is or if it actually ran on the route in question in the film. Classic example are when the participants travel to the West Country from Paddington and they show a typical GWR express loco pulling out, en route this may become a British Railways 5MT and finally they'll show a 2-6-2 Prairie Tank pulling into Kingswear station - rubbish! I could go on but I'm sure there are precise examples, indeed I;m sure The 39 Steps with Robert Powell is particularly poor in this respect during the scene when he escapes to the Yorkshire Moors... probably behind a train pulled by a Pannier Tank hehe
