I rushed out of my garage on Saturday to spot a late model Spitfire and what looked like a Mustang fly over the house. Anyone know what were they up to, where had they been? Assuming they weren't going to Heathrow I thought possibly White Waltham? Not a combination you see together that often and a fantastic noise.

They were at Dunsfold wings and wheels on Sunday , there are quite a few displays going on during that week-end.

A Spitfire and T-6 Harvard were displaying at an airshow near High Wycombe on Saturday late afternoon. They parked up at Booker before their aerobatic display, so if you are near there you would have seen them.

Definitely not a Harvard, sounds like they were from Dunsfold. I may have to pull my finger out and go to that next year.

May have been air-testing, they used to do that early afternoons when I worked in Donington. Always a good opportunity to get away from the phone wink

It did a brilliant display for about half an hour over Rolls-Royce, Hucknall this afternoon.

I'm on a course in a nearby building and thankfully it coincided with our afternoon break so got a great view. It was far lower than any display i've seen before, right over the factory.

I wonder if they aren't subject to the usual display restrictions and can pull out all the stops. It was wonderfull to see.

Each display pilot has his own "DA" (Display Authorisation) which allows him to display to specific limits. For example, they may be cleared for a flypast only down to an altitude of 100 feet or for an aerobatic display down to 200ft. The combinations are almost limitless and subject to approval by a Display Examiner.
