Bit of a long shot but thought I would ask. Does anyone know of any companies offering apprenticeships (Essex, Herts Cambs area) within the industry, 18 year old son feels it would be a good career path.

Times are very tough in the industry ATM with recent redundancies at Airbus, Magellan, Shorts & Bombardier & possibly more in the short term with anexpected upturn sometime next year.

I noticed that Airbus (at Broughton anyway) had fallen into the trend of hiring staff through agencies & I'm not talking about aircraft agencies such as Textron, I'm talking about the regular everyday recruitment agencies.

Marshalls of Cambridge take about 20 apprentices a year:

It might be worth checking out RR or BAE Systems websites too. RN/RAF could be an option if he's willing to do some time in the services and then convert to civvy licences on leaving.

When I worked there some youngsters would come from quite a long way away to do an apprenticeship at Marshalls. They also used to take on adult trainees as well.
