Lucky sod! I've been going to the RIAT for around 15 years and there was always more of a buzz when the Red Arrows came on. At first I thought it must be exaggerated national pride and that they probably weren't neccesarily the best but I was wrong!!
Their formations are always tighter and more imaginative than many of the others and there's always something to see when the main pack are forming up for the next move. Did you manage to get any photos?

we had the benefit of a full low-level 25 minute display over lymington and the western solent last weekend... they were booked for a private birthday party in the lymington area... iirc, the cost of booking the display was circa £100-150k, which having watched the display, and seeing how much money people fritter away on extravagent birthday parties, actually seemed like very good value for money!

I'd guess the scale of charges varies on who you are, where you are, and who (and how many) will be watching. The rates you quote are subsidised by an order of magnitude, probably two...maybe three, from the actual running cost. If you want a private party, you might expect to pay a good chunk of the overall cost.
In real terms, all £1,700 gets you in a Typhoon is the canopy wiped down and the tyre pressures checked.
Saw them by accident in Cyprus earlier in the year, we were driving through the air base that they practice at and I said to my g/f "wouldn't it be great if we saw the Red Arrows?" No sooner had I finished speaking and they appeared, as if by magic, on the horizon doing a massive red heart in the sky.
Awesome, absolutely awesome.

Same thing here. Turns out you can see them 2-3 times a day in Akrotiri, during the off (training season)..Awesome, absolutely awesome.
My sons rugby team had a half-time Red Arrows flypast this afternoon....On time as usual,on their way to Southport.I didn't see them,I was with the younger lad at another game, but had a ride down on the motorbike in time to see a majestic display by the Vulcan crew.A cracking day really!

Just seen them at Southport Airshow today. Stunning as usual. The Eurofighter Typhoon was incredibly versatile and ...er very loud too. Very impressive. They are repeating it all tomorrow if you are nearby.
I got there today just in time to see the Red Arrows ending and left just in time to miss the Typhoon, heard it though as we were stuck in traffic!Gassing Station | Boats, Planes & Trains | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
