With all the domes on top does anyone else think it bears more than a passing resemblance to:

I suppose the point of this sort of thing is so that someone very private can basically have a house anywhere they want in the world (where there is water!), without having to stay in a hotel?

That, and the Billy Big bks element comes into it - Abramovich already has a couple of yachts that are in the world's biggest top 20, and has lent one, Le Grand Bleu, to a friend. He's just upping the ante by having the ultimate status symbol - the new yacht is even bigger than Dubai's Royal Yacht (the previous biggest yacht IIRC), so 'Eclipse' is an apt name.

Very impresive.

I can't really think of a need for something that big, I mean, how many people is he really going to entertain on it at any given time?

Still, if you've got the money...

I'll take a second Russian battleship with a refit please, safe in the knowledge that it isn't going to sink or capzise. Mooring in Monaco might be an issue...

whilst very impressive, its not very different really is it? All these gin palaces look like this just scaled up in this instance. If i had this chaps wealth I'd much rather have something like Stromberg's Atlantis

Oh and a supertanker hollowed out to steal submarines.. Id call it Liparus.

So, depending on which source you wish to believe, the Eclipse has cost Roman anything between £300 & £700m and as far my understanding goes, he hasn't actually had the boat built from scratch - he has simply paid for it to be extensively re-fitted.

Could something like the Atlantis be built for that kind of money? I'm not convinced it could......

No style to it at all. Just looks like a wedding cake with the decks.

His other gin palace, the Pelorus, looks brilliant.

That being said, give me a couple of state industries too and I think I could come up with some pretty impressive ways to spend my new found gains.

Apparently there is a landing pad on the foredeck which lowers the helicopter into a hanger in the bow, similar to Ecstasea.

The rumour was that he gave it away, rather than lent. Its replacement is also nearing launch in Germany.
I also heard this had been given away saw it in falmouth about a month ago whilst I was on holiday it had 3 smaller boats on the back which were still bigger than the boat we were on lol. I

That is a big one, i worked on an Arabs Mega yacht last year restoring the paintwork on the hull, the owner use to have 3 one was Pelorous which he sold to Abramovich and the other he lost on a bet to his mate CRAZY.
