Apologies if a repost, but this has just popped up on that little "most popular stories" bit on the BBC News homepage. Worth 7 minutes of your life, I would suggest.

Nice film!

The first pair of towers in the video are on the Howden Dam wall, the second pair the Derwent Dam wall and the last stretch of water is Ladybower.

Go on, admit it, who said "bomb gone, skipper" at around 1 min 20 seconds?

Nice - I got a ride in an AAC Lynx in Germany when I was in the OTC. We got to fly over the Mohne Dam in a recreation of one of the Dambusters routes.

As we flew over a few people walking on top of the dam were waving. The pilot's comment:

'You weren't doing that in 1944 you buggers!'

Well there's a mental image shattered.

In my head the noise you hear in a Lanc from the pilots seat is the muted rumble of the merlins and some wind noise.

In reality it sounds like the cross between an out of balance tumble-dryer and a self-propelled lawn mower. Very disappointed!

That was brilliant. One the one hand, i could spot the path by which I access cut gate on my bike, but on the other, you could imagine the fear a pilots/crew members would feel if doing that under fire. The plane feels so slow and exposed! Feels like a sitting duck for any defences on the shore

Have you ever flown in/out of Manchester Airport? If you do a lot of Mountain Biking or walking in the Peaks, it's amazing how much you can recognise from an aircraft! It's also amazing how small the Peak District looks from a few thousand feet on a clear day! And even a bit scary on a bad day, when you think of how many aircraft came down on the high ground around there when aircraft and radar was much less sophisticated.
