Photos of my RIB and my old Car
Discussion
Hi,
Just seen this forum so I thought I'd put some photos up of my RIB. I work for a large Avon dealer so I built this myself in my spare time. I have since fitted a rear seat too.
Spec:
2009 Avon Adventure 580
Yamaha four stroke 150hp fuel injected
Indespension Roller Coaster trailer
2x Outhill jockey seats, console with forward seat and rear bench
8" Garmin 3D GPS plotter and sonar, connected to the engine for full engine data readout
Garmin VHF radio
Fusion CD player and iPod controller
Stainless steel wakeboarding/skiing A-frame
Flo-matting blue decking
etc...

Lovely rib mate!! quick question as your a boating man!!
Ive always had boats with outboards, i have just picked up a bit of a winter bargain ready fro next season and its in-board.
Its a 2001 monteray with a mercruiser 4.3 with alpha1 outdrive. The engine has a closed cooling system and sucks water in throught the leg and that cools the heat exchange. how do i go about winterising this boat?? obvioulsy i have done it before with outboards but this is a new game to me
tom

I'll find out for you. I've never had a sterndrive myself and all our servicing gets done at our service centre a few miles away so I'm not clued up on that!

Best and safest way to winterise an Alpha 1 leg (although you can drain the engine via the plug in the manifold heat exchnagers) is to put the leg into a dustbin full of standard antifreeze mix and run it up until it starts to come out of the outlet. Some will drain out but at least you'll be sure any water left in the engine wont freeze.Ive always had boats with outboards, i have just picked up a bit of a winter bargain ready fro next season and its in-board.

Edited to add you MUST let the engine warm sufficiently to open the thermostat when doing this...

Couple more photos since it's been finished. The rear bench seat I managed to pick up second hand which saved me about £1,000! It's the wrong colour at the moment but it's only around £200 for new upholstery which I'll be ordering soon.

Just a few photos of it tucked up in the lovely warm, dry and SAFE! showroom for the winter. One HUGE benefit of working where I do is the storage and that it can be kept on display in the showroom throughout the winter. I hate leaving boats outside for the winter. Everything stays damp and water freezes causing problems with the engine and bilge pump etc.

For some reason PH resizes the pictures and they look all pixelly, the originals are here: http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/danyeates5/FishingSe...

What does a RIB like that cost? I'm tentatively looking for one but I need it shipped to the Med where it will be kept (no problem with freezing water there!)
with our ph contacts i reckon atleast a 50 PERCENT discount is in order Edited by Silver993tt on Wednesday 23 December 21:56

A RIB like mine would now cost you around £33,000 or so, but mine does have a lot of options. £2,600 GPS, £400 decking, £1,100 A-frame, maximum engine (F150 now costs around £13,000 RRP), £350 stereo etc.
You could probably get my RIB in a very basic spec for around £24,000 I expect, boat engine and trailer. Unfortunately the prices have risen a lot last year and the prices have just risen again for the new year. In around a year, some of the Yamaha's went up by over 30%. Does have a positive affect on the used boat values though, they've been rising a lot. I built mine myself but there are a couple around used. I currently have a 2008 model with a Yamaha F115 and trailer for £21,000.

By the way, we ship a lot of boats to the Med so it might be worth dropping me an email if you have an idea on what you want, budget etc. Edited by Silver993tt on Wednesday 23 December 21:56
