EuroTunnel - Thanks a lot

Had booked a few days in France just before Xmas back in October.
Was due to travel today, so phoned up the Eurotunnel yesterday in preparation. Automated message told me that all was well although the weather was causing some slight delays.
We decided to drive down a day early and stay in Ashford travellodge (cheap but still £55) due to traveling with young kids.
Woke up this morning to a couple of inches of snow. Got to the Tunnel, and no sign of anything wrong. Checked in as usual and was called to the boarding gate at the usual time. Stayed parked up in a stack for an hour. Was told shortly afterwards that only one train was running and it was a two hour round trip. So the wait would be at least another two hours.....
After thinking about how long we could be waiting and the situation of getting stuck in France a day before Xmas, we decided to turn back and head home. Were told by the tunnel staff that no one was availble to speak to about refunds etc and that we had to write in....
Set of home and the M25 was hell - Two lanes closed on at least three occasions. Overhead signs read "Stranded Vehicle". The car in question in all three cases was on the blooming hard shoulder, why close the two inside lanes.......
Drivers on the M4 slowed down to 40mph due to the snow and whats wroing with the inside lane? Why does everyone insist on driving in the middle and outer lanes !!!
Totally pissed off and kids were tierd - Only saving grace was that my kids were able to play in the snow when we got home.
Why does the UK grind to a halt at the sign of any adverse conditions?

Because we have so little snow our infrastructure wasn't designed to cope with it in mind. How many of us carry tyre chains in our boot for instance? That's why the whole of London is gridlocked right now, and has been since 4pm!!no s

Eurtunnel is having massive problems that havent happoened in the 15 years they have operated, yet you want to have a little rant.
On a positive, good to see they are advertising on PH front page.

I'm sure that the councils & train operators have cut back on what they do, and that they should do more. But not too much more - I don't consider it worth while buying snow chains or snow tyres for a couple of days each year, at most. Why would I think that the council/train people would prepare enough to not be affected?Two inches of snow and the country grinds to a halt - and you lot think that is accepatable?
