The C27 spartan has close to a 100' wingspan and has a max take-off weight of 30 tonnes. It spends most of its time lugging lots of heavy military stuff about. Who'd have thought it would be cleared for aerobatics?!!

Is this the same bit of kit that some mad Italians heavy landed at IAT Fairford a few years back and snapped the nose gear off?

Yup, although I think the aircraft that binned-it at Fairford was the earlier G222 version. Here it is:

Similar engines and props to the C130J if I remember correctly.

I've seen these things perform frequently and they really are very agile. But don't forget that they are pretty empty and low on fuel when performing at airshows.

I've seen an Antonov An-74 petrform a half loop.

That sounds a bit ominous!

As long as you are good you can fly pretty much any aircraft like that, not much stress on it at all and it looks great because its graceful. For an example of what can be done with a bit of skill have a look at bob hoover.

Not to mention Roly Falk and the Vulcan and Tex Johnson and the Boeing 367-80 (prototype 707).

The 707 prototype is better know as the Dash 80 for those of you that aren't accountants and want to look up other vids on the Internet.. smile

Sorry for being accurate. I'll be sloppy in future.
