Was fortunate enough to spend a few days Spruce Creek this week. I'm no photographer but I hope these give a taste ...

A pretty amazing place!

Excellent photos - shame we can't build a place like Spruce Creek in the UK.

Was that a Jim Kimball Model 12? - sadly, we lost the one imported into the UK in an accident, but thankfully the pilot is on the mend after being very badly injured in the event. I was always in awe of the workmanship Jim put into the aircraft - arguably, in the final analysis the basic design can be said to be flawed - too-much engine and too-little control authority, but it was certainly a stunning piece of craftsmanship. I also had a hand in scrapping the remains of the airframe - knowing how it had been in the original state, it seemed almost a crime.

It's amazing what you can do in a low-tax economy.

I went on a shopping trip today and thought how much richer we'd all be if it wasn't for fuel tax, VAT on fuel tax, road tax, wine tax, spirit tax, and VAT on everything.

That Model 12 was built and belongs to, a chap called Keith Phillips. He's got a fantastic SX300 amongst his toy collection at SC. I thought Alan Cassidy's Model 12 was built by Ross Briegleb? Was it really that badly damaged?

You might be right about the final build, but there was a fair amount of Kimball input..and yes, completely written off. Thankfully, it hit the ground in a pretty much flat attitude, but the crash flattened the whole airframe - estimates of somewhere in the region of a 30g impact.

Yes it was Keith Phillips'. And more of a gent you could not hope to meet. We took of from Flagler and blasted up at just 70kts. I have no idea what the roc was but with the close to 20 kts on the nose we went up really steep. :-)

He then let me fly it in formation. Just wow!

Yep - all the houses are different but most have a hangar.

And council tax!

Everyone I met deserved to be there. Hard working honest individuals.

When I did some flying in Florida I had my medical done by a former USMC doctor who lived in Spruce Creek. His examination room was in the corner of the hangar that his Bonanza was in smile

Dr. Kurle! Wish I could find a way of making $80 for 5 minutes work!

It's a brilliant place and you're always guaranteed to see some pretty cool cars down there! OP, did you happen to see all the customised golf buggies driving around? I hope you tried one of the burgers in the restaurant as well, they're amazing!

Oh yep - the Downwind Cafe. Ate there about 4 or 5 times. You're right the burgers are great especially for less than $10. (And I don't normally eat burgers.)

Can't stop thinking about Aerobatics now. That and how do I raise some cash to buy the pad I want on Taxiway Echo. $200,000 so cheap ...

Tell me about it! It's such a great place, I used to rent a 172 for about $60 an hour there - took it to the Bahamas and all kind of cool places. I spent 2 years in Florida and would go back in a flash if I could get it to work out!
