Isnt it quiet

Is it me or is it ......well.......quiet without planes.?

Very.

I noticed it in bed last night.

It is not noisy where I am, we get a few London City aircraft over, some from Stansted, in the distance a few into Heathrow and very high altitude 30,000 feet transatlantic stuff.

It is quite surprising, you don't notice the noise usually, but when it is not there it is very quiet. It is amazing how much background noise there is that you don't normally notice.

The lack of contrails is......different. It's usually very busy in the skies over North Staffs.

It is actually rather a pleasant change. I expect I'll notice it even more when it all starts again.

Aye I'm on the flight path for Liverpool John Lennon, it's very strange that I really have noticed it!!

I am at work, airside at Heathrow and it's just plain (or is that plane )weird!

Living and working in West London is a whole new experience it is a bit like Christmas day every day ........only quieter !

I hope the people orchestrating the campign to stop the 3rd Runway at Heathrow are out and about !

We just had 13 prop planes approach Gatwick and 10 minutes later fly back again.
Any ideas what,s going on?

Not light aircraft flying on Visual Flight Rules into Redhill are they? We've had a few light a/c over today. And a couple of microlights.

I hadn't realised that even light aircraft and helicopters were grounded too. On sunny day there's always planes overhead flying to the nearby airfield and usually the police helicopter is about. Today, all I can hear is the birds, oh and the occasional car, but only if they're booting it

Had a number of Helicopters and light aircraft womble by. They run below controlled airspace and way below the offending ash so are unaffected.

The husband of a friend is an aerobatics champ and he asked for permission to land at Gatwick today in his prop aircraft as he and a few chums are starting their own aerobatics team. However, the cost to land at Gatwick today was rather more than his wife would let him spend, so I guess that is what you saw. It was to be featured on the BBC, but as it didn't happen it now won't!

Over Bedford area, I've seen a few microlights, and private aircraft flying today....thought there may be a few peeps helping out

Well this morning and early afternoon I didn't hear a thing, just been out on the the old bicycle up to the airfield and seen two planes take off, no police helicopters though.

I don't live in a noticeably 'aeroplane' area, but it did seem remarkably quiet this morning.

At least it was until a few light aircraft decided to buzz the estate this afternoon, well below 500', grr.

Makes you wonder how nice the world would be be if we just used ships instead - it might restore some sanity.

I wonder how many film makers have been out filming "28 days later" style post-apocalyspe style scenes with silent airports. Or those making period dramas have been rushing their exterior shots by not having to worry about contrails in the sky.
