Sat in my garden just outside Cardiff and just saw the following, thought it might have a reason you gents would be aware of.

Clear sky except I saw a big 4 engine jet high up leaving a vapour trail (guess at 747), heading east, nothing unusual except that running exactly parallel at a guess of 3 miles apart was another big 2 engine, same height same speed, not seen that before.

The other unusual thing was that about 20 seconds behind the 4 engine jet was a small business type jet, or maybe a hawk hiding in the vapour trail, you could only see it when the sun hit the body. I dont think it was mil as they are usually noisy and this thing was silent, and I could hear the 4 engined jet when that came over.

I love a mystery so any ideas, I did think it could be airforce one and escorts, is the US president due here or in europe today.

Anybody east of Cardiff want to take a look as its probably over the West Country now.

Been quite a few aircraft 30,000feet+ over Essex following the same tracks east to west today.

Nothing unusual in that, probably just a bit busier now it's summer, we get a lot of aircraft over here following each other, perhaps 5-10 miles apart.

They will all tend to use the same flight paths.

Would have to ask how you know they are the same height (they may well be but our eyes are not best reliable for this). (directional faux pas removed.....) If you look on them radar 24 or whatever it is called web site you can see loads of them.

I live in Bridgend, so see them heading that way all the time though I would not want to gues 28,000 as opposed 30,000 ft.

Ha ha I noticed that as well!!

Being a geek I had a look on the plane finder app on my phone, the 4 engine one was a Royal Jordanian Airbus 340 it was at 39,000 feet, the one following was an emirates 777 at 34,000 feet.

I couldn't see the smaller one.

And I can't believe I've admitted this on a public forum.

I landed yesterday morning after a night flight from Orlando.

Middle of night while looking out window i counted 9 other aircraft within view, following us across the atlantic.

Someone on aircraft told me there are 600 flights a day across the pond.

Thats a lot of people, mad.

Radar 24, I live under a Flight Path, and It's great watching the planes going over and looking them up on there to see what Airline they are, and where they're going.

Take a look at this video to really appreciate the number or air movements around the globe in 24 hours. Quite amazing as you watch the different parts of the world waking up at different times.

Or buy yourself something like a Kinetic Aviounics SBS1. I use it at work to locate interesting airliners to act as test targets.
