I think it deserves a thread of its own, as its such a special plane

First up, the pilot straps in, and winds back the years

then, once the engines were started, and warmed up, it was held on the brakes for a few minutes

The afterburners were then lit....

which then became quite dramatic - huge flames

with both engines lit, the plane begins to power away

and you wish, it could be allowed to do its party peace, and shoot straight up on the air..

Alas that could not be allowed, but even so, the heat haze was pretty soon creating an impressionistic effect, that money would have been proud of..

that is one aircraft I would love to see in the air again...

(cannot afford a trip to South Africa though!)

And since the sad demise of DS with the loss of '451, and offical full acc rep being published, there's been very little flying out there either, other than the minimal required for, pressumably Mike Beachyhead, to retain type currency and no more.

It was only decided on Saturday to run XS904 else she would have been static along with 728. Glad they did get her working though as the Lightnings are by far the highlight at Bruntingthorpe as none of the others have flames coming out the back biggrin
