Quite a reasonable size one again this year.

Notable for the last Birthday flypast to feature the Tornado F3, which is being replaced later this year.
Also notable for the Nimrod R1, one of only 2 Rolls Royce Spey powered Nimrods flying. These are the Electronic Intelligence gathering variants and are not often seen. These are being retired next April and being replaced by leased RC-135s from the US.
It will also mark the first public appearance of the Red Arrows clap after their accident earlier this year.

Details here:

Aircraft will form up over Southwold Suffolk and route down as per the map on the attached link:

The Memorial flight usually sit in the hold at Fairlop/Hainault before running in. These are followed by the jets.

Aircraft will be over the Mall at 1300 routing out via Northolt and Brize Norton.

Note times on the attached docs are UTC (GMT) add one hour for BST times.

Harriers used to take part but over the last 10 or so years they have been banned from overflying London.

The reason being if the engine packs up they have poor gliding characteristics. The Hawk on the otherhand can glide.

The Harrier would drop like a brick.

I'll be at the usual place ontop of one of the 3 high circle mounds next to the A40 just east of the Target Roundabout....great view across London from there and they then pass right overhead (except BMMF sadly) just before they overfly RAF Northolt.

You couldn't bring that up on Google Maps could you? Sounds like a good spot.

The trouble is the satellite photo is quite old, and only shows them during construction boxedin

But here it is anyway :-

There are two car parks but they will fill up quick, but you can park on-road to the west of the mounds in Kensington Rd.

Military work in GMT. You need to add 1 hr, so restrictions finish at 1320 (1220GMT).
