Hi,

On Friday I'm towing my RIB all the way down to Mylor Bridge in Cornwall to visit my girlfriends parents who have just moved there from Lymington.

We're launching at Mylor Yacht Harbour and have the boat in the marina there for 4 nights so I'm wondering if any locals would care to give me any pointers, advice, local area insider knowledge I should have please?!

Would be much appreciated. Plan to do all sorts once we're on the water, wakeboarding (where should we do this?), fishing (again - where), taking the inflatable kayak so would like to know of some good places we can anchor the rib and explore with the kayak, good beaches and good pubs with decent pontoons outside.

Also, we plan to drive down with the boat on the trailer during the night as it will be cooler, so easier on the engine and a quicker run. Would it be best to drive late one evening (set off a 21:00ish) or early in the morning (4:00ish) would you say? It's around a 4.5 hour drive from my house in Lymington.

Thanks,

Dan

Saturday morning is change over day. AVOID !
Set off very early, or late one evening if you prefer. You want to be there before 8am at the latest.
If you are towing, take the second turn to Mylor, not the first one just after the pub at Perranworthal, it is wider and straighter.
Providing you don't come across a caravan with a blowout (it happens all the time rolleyes ) you should be OK.
For the return, do the same, and don't leave with the crowd.
Enjoy your weekend biggrin

Thanks. Just looked it up on Google maps, both roads look pretty narrow!

And it's two weekends, and a week! Hope the weather's nice. biggrin

You'll have a ball I'm sure. From Mylor, there are loads of nooks and crannies to explore, and some good fishing as well.

Hi Dan,

Mylor is an excellent place to launch from the road down to it is pretty narrow but every ones used to boats coming and going so shouldn't be a problem. The slipway can be a bit of a free for all if it's busy and it dries out at low tide.

Loads of places to have an explore around, make sure you go up towards Truro, past the King Harry ferry and look at the cargo ships moored up there.

Pub wise the Pandora in Restronguet Creek, the Heron in Malpas or the Ferry Boat in the Helford are all good.

Hope you have a good time.

Thank you very much everyone. I've been up the river once before in a tour boat and seen all the tanks so I'm keen to have another look at them. Thanks for the list of pubs! Always useful.

I'll let you know how we get on down there.

If you're going to Truro, do the Skinners brewery tour.
Don't make any plans for after it though biggrin

It's even right on the river - there's no drink driving laws on the boat are there?! (joke...)

There are wink
Get there about Midday, and join in with another party if there are only a few of you.
The stocky old fella who will be behind the bar/do the tour, is called Albi. He's a lovely bloke, as are all the staff. Don't be frightened to ask him if he wants a hand behind the bar if it gets busy.

Wouldn't have a clue what to do behing the bar!

Boat engine isn't looking too healthy at the moment. Going to have to work late on it tonight after work and take it out with the Yamaha diagnostic system to see if I can find out what's wrong with it. I've had water in my fuel so I think it's causing the bottom injector to stick frown Don't have time to have it serviced now so may have to borrow one off another engine.
