Well, that looked wrong and... it was.

I realise they are great for heavy lifting in principle but- :-)

What a piece of rubbish that contraption was. Where was the FAA in all this?

You're right. It was built by Piasecki Aircraft Corporation, not Piasecki Helicopter Corporation (which became Vertol then Boeing Vertol). The former was founded when Frank Piasecki left the original Piasecki Helicopter in 1955 to form his own company again.

They also had a concept that would've used four CH-53s connected by a similar frame.
