Hi All, after visiting Paxos and Corfu, and having a lovely time watching the various motor and sailing boats coming and going, one sailing boat struck me as particularly impressive.

It was a single masted boat, black hulled, which I found out later was called the Aristachos. It was moored by itself, looking all sleek and broody a fair way outside Gaios harbour, and looked like any other largeish sailing yacht. Until I noticed someone standing on the tender platform at the rear. The figure looked tiny, and I figured the boat had to be well over 100ft long. We saw it later heading out to sea in full sail, which was impressive to say the least.

So when I got home I looked it up, apparently it's a Swan 131, 40m in length. And you can rent it for 87,000E a week!

I've never seen anything like it in this scale before (I've seen multi mast big ships and sailing cruise ships before etc). So is this single masted boat unusual for this size, and is it the biggest??

Try Mirabella V with a mast height of 88.5m.

Mirabella V is indeed the king, I was lucky enough to go onboard her a couple of times a few years back. An amazing machine!

To give an idea of scale, the furler for the foresail on Mirabella 5 is as tall as a man and weighs about 7 tons.

It is also too tall by quite a bit, to fit under the QE2 bridge across the Thames.
