Wrong link mate. It appears to be a story about discovering a new universe. Can't see any mucky women anywhere.

Has Soovy upgraded to the Torygraph? Where's the flesh? What's going on?

Maybe it really is a parallel universe silly

The planet finding techniques are getting more and more refined. Expect more such announcemnents in the near future.

Finding another earth-like planet is probably less than a decade away.

Space related postings often end up in the "Planes and Boats" section of PH - which is not very satisfactory either.

And the main plus point of posting an interesting thread like this in the "Planes" section is that you get less silly replies and more informed discussion.

The tital of this thread is wrong. I very much doubt that this solar system is "new".

I suspect its been there a very long time wink

More a case of who posted it I think though to be fair - rather than the location. Soovy does have a penchant for the ladies of the Mail and certain modus operandi when it comes to posting

One of the reasons why I don't post too much in the Lounge.
Topics go way off topic far too rapidly as people try to be "funny".

OK, I'll start a serious discussion here then.

IF an earth type planet is found, it raises a very real possibility of colonising another planet. According to radio 4 last week, scientists have found a bacteria which photosynthesises O2 and can survive the vacuum of space making a space hardy 02 generator possible. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/space/7960816/B...

Given that say high percentage of the speed of light is possible using current and near future technology, it means that a generation ship may be possible. Or if we ID the ageing gene soon, which is likely, we may not even need to use a generation ship. Colonising another planet sooner than we think.

Of course, it may already be colonised.

Exactly, we just get rid of the blue monkeys using big roboty things. Someone should make a rather poor film about it and then turn it into 3D to fool the audience with smoke and mirrors.

Even if we did discover a planet that was suitable for inhabiting.
How long would it take to develop the technology to transport any humans there?

Who would make the decisions on what other creatures, bacteria and plants to take.

How would the decision process be made on which humans go there? Cream of the crop or representative proportion of population?

Do we have the political framework to begin this process yet?
