Not really much of an aircraft enthusiast but quite a loud noise over the farm just now, went out for a look and what looked to my unpractised spotting eyes like a Hurricane being closely pursued by something that looked a bit like a Mustang? Closely, like it was on a short tow-rope.

Quite low level but still too far for my workshop camera, so no usable pics I'm afraid. They looped the loop at one point

Anyone know anything about this? Or has something been going on that I am the only person who doesn't know about?

Front one's a Spitfire.

Actually, saying that, it looks like the back one is too.

As for what's going on, it's the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain this year so there's lots of WWII aircraft movements at the moment.

Yes, of course, I should have remembered, having made the Airfix models as a child, still, that was a LONG time ago. The other one definitely wasn't, though.

The second aircraft looks like a P-51D Mustang. It seems to have D-Day invasion stripes on the wings.

Well spotted, eh, from someone who had never seen one in the 'flesh' before. I will consider myself warmly congratulated, and will let the little slip re the lead aircraft pass unremarked.

Misidentifying a Spitfire means instant deportation to Stalag Luft 17 for failing to be "British" enough.

You're on dodgy ground yourself pal, after your review of the "First Light" drama.

Nazi biggrin

ETA smiley face (for the hard of thinking).

Despite your smiley face, I invoke Godwin's Law.

Hearing and seeing these great machines on an almost daily basis at the moment. Driving up the A404 last Saturday we had an impromptu Spitfire display over and around White Waltham.

Last seen heading in a westerly direction (Oxfordish?).

Spitfire flew over me near Denham earlier, about 1815, never normally see them here. He was about 1000ft and tanking it! biggrin

Quite often see one at Wycombe, not sure if it was the same one. Wonder if he landed at Denham, he would have been in the ATZ/TMA.
