Got up for work and realised that the sky was nice and clear. So, for once I paid more attention as to what I was looking at out of our southerly facing kitchen window. I'm glad I did.

I saw a bright 'star', all on it's own in the sky in a south easterly direction. It was quite bright and prominent.

Was this Venus (after reading around I think it was)? If so, then that's the first time i've looked at it and realised what it is (only seriously been into astronomy since July). smile

How South are we talking?

At about 6am this morning both Venus and Saturn would have been reasonably close in the south east.
Sirius would have been quite bright too, that would have been south west.

Hmm, I would say South South East, so not quite fully South but not quite South East (if that makes sense). It was at 6:50am, fairly low to the horizon and quite bright. I don't think it was Sirius.
