"The museum was in financial difficulties during the summer of 2010 and was asked to vacate its current main site by the Ministry of Justice - owners of the buildings the museum occupies which is part of the original airfield now occupied by Her Majesty's Prison Haverigg. Negotiations failed regarding a new lease agreement. The permanent closure was confirmed on the 1st September, 2010 with outstanding debts being the driving force. Much of the museum's exhibits were on-loan and will be returned to owners. Millom Heritage Museum And Visitor Centre has shown an interest in some of the exhibits relating to the very local area but is limited for space."

It's items are being auctioned of here - http://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogu...

If anyone fancies a few aviation items smile

Can I interest anyone in a Canberra, a Vampire or a Westland Whirlwind or any number of jet, radial and inline aero engines?

Good Lord, Millom on PH!

They have a site in Millom just down the road from me and there's been a steady stream of bits of aircraft coming past on low loaders recently. There's still some stuff down there though and the helicopter at Haverigg is still there.

It's a real shame that it's closing down.

If anyone's particularly interested I could pop down and grab some pictures of what's left?

Shame their Canberra had its wings chopped. Still, I suppose someone will save the cockpit.

There's a lot of stuff there I'd like to bid on...

The cutaway 208 Avon and various propellors to name a few would look great in my front room!

No idea how much that sort of stuff will make but i may just take a day off work and have a little trip up there...
