This baby can do over 300mph, and from the outside looks like this:

Here's the space-age cockpit:

Not even any holograms or banks of flashing lights frown

It truely does looks like an attic room where someone has build a copy of the Enterprise Control Desk in the corner.

I thought that was a joke. If it works then why not but the trailing socket is taking the mickey a bit!

Theres a different monorail "cockpit", really theyre bowing to pressure from chinese train simulator companies to build a cockpit easily re-created in chinese train spotters' chinese mums chinese attics?

You sure? Looks like a mock-up for a set of usability trials to me - exactly like one.

I'm not sure this the real cockpit. Wouldn't the office chair slide about a bit when going upto and back down from 300mph???

Deffinately not the real cockpit, if you look in the first pic of the train you can clearly see a 28" CRT telly (it could also be a drinks cabinet;-) behind the LHS window that isn't in the "real" cockpit mockup laugh

I've been on this train and can vouch that this is actually the cockpit - there is a handily placed window in the cockpit door which allows you to see it in all it's shabbiness.

Don't think it will do 300mph either - 410kph, yes - I have a nice pic somewhere of the speed readout saying this while it was beating it's way through the Shanghai countryside - will dig it out and post it later.

Think I saw a maximum of 412 kph on the display. Didnt last long as they started decelerating almost as soon as it hit top speed.

Hmmm, can't remember what max speed I saw (was definitely 400kph+) but also have pics of it (from back in 2005)

I'm sure it's quite exciting for train buffs, but that was possibly one of the dullest pieces of video I have ever watched in my life. sleep

431km/p (268mph) is the maximum that the Maglev will go for public use, although I believe it will go faster. It's not at top speed for long before it has to start slowing down.
