Judging by the number of cameras it looks a little set-up but it certainly makes the Crunchie girls look a bit tame!

Definitely a stunt. Knowing how cheap surplus WW1 aircraft were in the 1920s, the financial loss on cracking up on landing because of a missing wheel was not comsensurate with the personal risk involved in changing a wheel in mid air.

Surplus aircraft were so cheap, farmers used to buy Curtiss Jennies just for the packing crates. They would junk the airframe, keep the engine as a generator and use the crate as a hen house.
