Libyan No Fly Zone

If the Libyan no fly zone were to be enforced, would there air defences be destroyed to help with the NFZ or not? The reason I'm asking is because I don't think it's necesseary, as I don't think Gaddafi is stupid enough to shoot down a plane in a U.N approved NFZ. I wouldn't be suprised if he let off a few SAM's though but I think he'd make sure no planes were in the area.

If there were to be a NFZ enforced it would have to involve the destruction of Libyas air defence network, including in all likelihood their air force and airfields. That would still leave the shoulder launched variety but these are reckoned to be old hat vs current countermeasures (wouldnt like to chance it mind).

Didn't see that thread. I still don't think he'd be stupid enough to try to shoot down a multi national planes. If it were just us and France then yes I think it would be necessary to destroy there air defences.
