The 'blue chip' FLY number plates - FLY 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc were issued in the 1930s. FLY 1 was originally owned by Lord Brabazon (later, I believe, by Freddy Laker)

1, 2, 3, 4, 5 FLY, etc were originally issued in the late 1950s.

All pretty valuable these days.

Those are traditional great plates.

It went for £1600 plus the usual fees, not too unreasonable a price I'd say. I'd been keeping an eye on it thinking it might be good for the Exige but I can't afford such fripperies at the moment.

'FLY' no. plates do look good and seem to command premium prices, but it's a bit galling that the DVLA should sell FLY 10W, knowing full well that it really requires a bit of (illegal) manipulation of the 1 to achieve the intended result

FLY 2 1T was a landmark plate around these parts in the 80's. Owned by a local travel agent.
Haven't seen the plate for many years though.

I recently bought a job load of classic Jaguar spares off an old boy in Blackpool . Whilst rummaging through his stash of Jag stuff I found a number plate , JET 5 . He used to have it on a Jaguar Mk1 Saloon back in the 1970s . Sadly he sold the plate , how much that would be worth now .

Nothing more tragic than a work-related personalised number plate.

Mate has a website for it called 'Tools in my Trade' where people submit certain gems found in the car park . . .

What did he look like? Not like Sean Penn's character in Carlitos Way by any chance? There used to be a light blue mk1 Jaguar at the end of my street that I'd see driven regularly, then it just sat on his drive for ages and ages and just seemed to fall into a right state until one day it was gone. Always wondered what happened to him and his car, could be the same guy!
