BBC news report says Libyans say 4 kids killed in a car at the scene of a the crash ..... although the video in the link above shows the F15 down in a field and no sign of any car .........

What happened to the engines? If you look at 00:40 and 00:50 the 'binocular' engine tunnels are empty. Looks like it pancaked in, but surely the engines wouldn't have gone that far into the dirt?

Is there likely to be anything "sensitive" on the plane? The video shows some of it's armaments pretty undamaged (AIM's etc) I assume the actual F15 is pretty old news these days, so not worth salvaging the airframe itself??

I imagine that the US will send a single Apache operating from a ship of the coast to rescue the downed pilot and fire a couple of hellfires into the aircraft in order to destroy any sensitive equipment onboard...

I have heard of 2 arecraft strike missions being called in in the first gulf war to ensure equipment wasn't captured!

Anyone know how the pilots made it home? I thought they landed in a 'freindly' area but i bet the pentagon still wanted them out of the ASAP!

Yep, but they shot them up just to be on the safe side.



I realy don't know how many more dodgy countries/other people's battles we can 'help' with; we're a bit skint as it is.

I have read Ed macy's (think thats the guy) book titled Apache. He gose into great detail about that perticular resuce. if what h is saying is tue then you have to give praise to the crews that day. They pushed over the limits to get the guy back.

They will sell oil whichever bunch of loonies is in power. They need the money as much as we need the oil.

(Libya is only 2% of world production, but a handy scare for whacking up the price of fuel. Anyone notice the 1p cut today? I didn't.)
