unusual plane just gone overhead?

Funny plane just went over, broadly a vampire-shape, with twin tail. Dark grey perhaps blue with orange flashes, it sounded like it was prop driven though. Any ideas?

Fuselage looked similar if not the same as the vampire (I saw it as it was flying out of view from rear three-quarters below), as I say it was the sound (and speed) that threw me.

Definitely not a Vampire, but of that ilk...

Cessna Skymaster perhaps? (found that on google)

The Sea Vixen is in "!proper" Royal Navy colours these days.

Sounds like it might have been a Cessna 337.



They were quite common in the 60s and 70s but are now rather rarer.

Never seen the film but the 337 was used by the US Air Force for Forward Air Control; duties during the Vietnam War - until replaced by the North American OV-10 Bronco. In USAF service the 337 was refered to as the Cessna O-2A.



The Cessna O-1 Bird Dog was also a Forward Air Control aircraft that was used in both Korea and Viettnam

Think it's something to do with dirty airflow over the rear prop. Albeit apparently a very good tool, they are very loud!

not twin boom but from certain angles can look like it...sound weird has diesel engines....A Maybe??
