What do you fly?

What caused that?
There had been work done on the reverser buckets down route, and they hadn't fully stowed after the work was completed. When the big beastie rotated, they shifted just enough to trigger the switch that indicates they're deployed, although not enough to have any effect on the engine thrust.
However, the logic bomb that had been slumbering in the 747 systems for decades was that on landing, when the reversers are deployed the leading edge devices are retracted automatically to save them being damaged by muck thrown up by the reversed jet blast.
In this case, it caused the leading edge devices to retract just as they got airborne, robbing a huge amount of lift, and generally leading to all manner of bad things.
The 747s worldwide were subsequently modified to act on the position of the reverser controls on the flight-deck, rather than the position sensor on the buckets.
