Stuff they say on food shows
Discussion
Was just thinking there's a couple of things they say on food shows that really annoy me.
1) "The acidity of the lemon really cuts through the meat"...
No. The thing that cuts through the meat is a knife.
2) "That dish is very unique"
No!! "Unique" is an absolute; either it's unique, or it's not. There are no levels to uniqueness!
Any sayings / quotes they come up with often that annoy you?

how else are you supposed to refer to it then?
Fruit sauce? It is called coulis for a reason - because it is a coulis. Would you also prefer that they didn't distinguish between any ingredient groups?
"Tonight I'm cooking meat with vegetables and sauce"
If you aren't interested in what they are cooking maybe you are watching the wrong type of program?

What they normally say is acidity of "whatever" really cuts through the faytiness of the meat. Which is fair enough although the knife still cuts through the fat but I know what they mean!1) "The acidity of the lemon really cuts through the meat"...

What annoys me on cooking programs is them telling you to tear basil (or other herbs) with you hands as it loses less flavour that way. It's absolute rubbish which you will find out by smelling your fingers after "tearing" the basil which absolutely stink much more than a knife and board would.
Silly I know but it annoys me!
I find the way Gordon Ramsay says "cuisine" very annoying indeed (not that I'm particularly a fan of anything else he says).
I've also noticed that 'foams' seem to be slowly going out of fashion (thankfully) but are now being replaced by 'spumes' (oh, what joy...).
I'm going to make myself clear right now - if anyone puts a spume on my plate, they are going to get it blown back into their face!

Calm down dear. As I suspected it's a thick sauce: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CoulisIt is called coulis for a reason - because it is a coulis. Would you also prefer that they didn't distinguish between any ingredient groups?
