Pistonheads Cooking competition no. 9: Picnic
Discussion
Picnic.
This time we’re having a slight change of focus. Its summer (apparently) and this time we’ll be voting on the best picnic dish(es). No specific ingredients.
The only real stipulation is that the food must be edible straight from the bag or hamper. No cheeky barbecue paraphernalia to be brought out the bag please. Your food must be portable and potable.
Looking for interesting picnic food ideas with the focus on ingredients and flavours. It can be a modest dish for a solo picnic, it can be a range of dishes for a few people. Savoury, sweet whatever.
You don’t have to take your photo ‘on location’ if you don’t want, but it would be quite nice wouldn’t it? No one will be disqualified if your picnic venue appears to be the garden or even ‘lounge rug’ so the agoraphobics can stop panicking.
I think we’ll increase the photo limit a smidge to 5 for obvious reasons.
Closing date for entries midnight Sunday 19th. This gives 2 weekends -but if the timescale is too tight and there’s enough clamour we can maybe extend it a bit and reduce voting time or something.
There is vast scope here. Get going foodie picnicheads.

You'd be very welcome croakey! If so are there any rules etc??
Make your dish, take a picture or pictures of it (in this case no more than 5) post it/them and a brief description of the dish.
Usually we stipulate that a dish must contain a specific ingredient but not this time.
After the closing date we'll set up a poll and the person with the most votes will win. -The winner gets to pick the next theme for the competition. -Take a look back at some of the previous competition threads to get a feel of how they've gone.
What a fantastic idea!
Unfortunately I'm going to have to sit this one out. Although the UAE is rife with picnic spots, parks, beaches etc. it is currently sitting at 48 degrees C outside and about 60% humidity. Picnics are generally spoilt by:
1. Dripping sweat.
2. Dripping everything.
3. Betty Swollocks.
Although I might try and sneak an entry of a picnic at my dinner table that could have possibly been taken outside had the devil himself not farted in my general direction.

Im going to have to bail on this one, my weekends when I do most of my cooking, are chocker for the next two weeks.
What I would have done and could have done for the Duck and egg competition was a duck and pork terrine (the egg is a binding agent) with onion marmelade and crusty bread.

The terrine sounds great, and its a shame because the competitions are all the better for your entries Monsieur Cotty. What I would have done and could have done for the Duck and egg competition was a duck and pork terrine (the egg is a binding agent) with onion marmelade and crusty bread.
Next time eh?
