Recommendation for a special cider to give as a present?

Any cider drinkers out there who could suggest a really special cider to give as a wedding present for a couple who like their cider?

I don't drink it, so I don't want to make a faux pas and buy something run of the mill.

The nice thing about cider is that the best ones aren't expensive. Do you live anywhere near Herefordshire or Somerset?

Instead of spending money, spend some time visiting farms to find a really, really, really good farm cider.

Some of the nicest ciders I've had were brewed under a radiator on a farm in somerset, and sold by the Jerry can.

If you want a more commercial one, look out for one called "devils brew" it's about 8.5 % ABV, but tastes like it's half that. However, you may have to learn how to walk again the following morning.

This place is in northern france and we had some cracking cider there on monday on our way back from Le Mans. The dry is very scrumpy like and a bit cloudy but the sweet is fantastic, it isnt too sweet and has a nice hint of sharpness with it. Their ciders have benn winning prizes since the 1920`s
The Calvados was superb too and it gives you an excuse to nip over to France and stock up

Some of the best ciders i've tried have been from small rural farm shops that brew there own. Cheap too so could potentially get a case/small keg.

Agree that the best ciders are definitely the local homebrew, low-volume stuff (and I can confirm this after a long night at a beer & cider festival yesterday ). It might be worth asking friends or work colleagues if they know anybody that brews their own stuff.

Chucklehead ... me n some mate have a Chucklehead day.... buy cider on line, convert bottom of my fridge to accomodate, and some family fun .... well the blokes do, and fall a sleep by 6.... great stuff.

According to James May's programme when he visited a small cider place, there are two kinds of cider, Sleeping and Fighting. Make sure you get the right one!

Biddenden's Special Reserve, very nice Kentish cider, wine strength at 13% ABV but hides the alcohol impressively, should cost you no more than £9 or about the same as a reasonable vino.
