Hello everyone! wavey

I was hoping the good people of PH could give me some advice on the above subject. I am looking at doing a course in mixing cocktails/bar work soon and was wondering if there are people on PH who do this?

I've been looking at courses mainly in London (as I live near there) with some even throwing in accommodation! I would like to get the thing done all in one go so will probably go for an intensive course like this;
http://www.londonbarschool.com/English/welcome.htm... 4 week course for £795

Or
http://www.basbartendingschool.co.uk/

Any advice welcome. smile

(It's not for a job per se, just an interest: Did you know that Absinthe was only made legal in the USA in 2007 and it's still illegal to import it into Australia! (only fake home made grown is allowed))

There are dozens of bartender courses out there, but whats your end goal? Do you want to work in a cocktail bar?

because i tell ya, they will look a LOT better at some experience as a bar back in a well-known bar than waving around a diploma from the Oxbridge College of Mixology wink

wtf?

Are you seriously saying there are "courses" where you learn to bung some booze in a glass and shake it? What is the world coming to....

I've heard there are courses where they teach you to bung food in a pot and cook it!

Seriously there can be a lot of depth to cocktail making. A well considered and executed cocktail is one of summers great pleasures.

Mr Roper, I'm also a big Long Island Iced Tea fan, though I've not knowingly had it with egg white. What is the purpose of the egg white?

It's normally used as a sort of frothing agent.

I dont think he was suggesting egg whites go in an Long Island. Its usually used in sours (e.g. whisky sour, pisco sour etc) to get a froth, as was said above. Pineapple juice froths well if people are squeamish about eggwhite.

The egg whites are used to give the drink a slightly silky texture. smile
