Right, time to get some good ideas for the next round.

The first 12 ideas or whatever's been nominated by Friday night will be put in a poll.

The winning idea will be the basis of the next competition. -Can be a combination rather than single ingedient.

We've already had: Pork, prawns, lamb, duck, oily fish, cheese, chocolate, picnic and whatever else I can't remember off the top of my head.

G-G-G-Go!

I think chicken was one of the ingredients?
Fruit sound like a good idea, could go sweet or savoury.
If you really wanted to open things up potato.

There is a whole range of stuff in season, could even have a 2 or 3 course competition with what is available.

June.

Meat - Beef, lamb, mutton, veal, buck venison.

Poultry - Chickens, ducklings, fowls, green geese, leverets, plovers, pullets, rabbits, turkey pullets, wheatears.

Vegetables.
Asparagus continues its short season. New potatoes, the first courgettes and globe artichokes, green beans, salad leaves, mange-tout and watercress.

Fruit.
Strawberries, cherries and gooseberries.

Fish.
Hake, crab, lobster, prawns, sardines and whitebait.

Cheese.
Farmhouse Cheddar.

July.

Meat - Beef, lamb, mutton, veal, buck venison.

Poultry - Chickens, ducklings, fowls, green geese, leverets, plovers, pullets, rabbits, turkey poults, wheatears, wild ducks (called flappers).

Vegetables.
Broad beans, peas, green beans, garlic, cucumbers, lettuces and salad leaves, radishes and watercress.

Fruit.
Black, red and white currants, strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, cherries, bilberries and blueberries.

Fish.
Grilse (young salmon), plaice just beginning and squid from Scotland. The best month for crab, lobster, prawns and shrimps.

Cheese.
Goats' milk cheese from Britain.

Really like the seasonal approach Cal.

But is there a specific ingredient or couple of ingredients that you'd really like to cook with? Want to get to something definite and simple for everyone asap.

^^ If we are going 'local' then:

Camel
Labneh
Goat
Hamour

Perhaps something a little more universal?

Offal is a good suggestion
Salad?

How about flavours?

Lemon
Garlic
Chilli

What about being ultra-specific so the votes are for the detail?

Roast beef & Yorkies
Fish and chips

That's how Masterchef started wasn't it? Same dish for all contestants with judging based on the taste and presentation.

Be interesting to set a financial limit as well, "Best you can do with x for <£2" or whatever.

A limit may be too constraining but if there was a frugal theme total cost/cost per portion could be displayed as an additional judging criteria

Again, that's worthy of a separate comp, there is a tv show that does a meal on a budget recipe!

I think where delving into a hole world of complications at the moment. Lets just stick to the tryed and tested formula?

Although I do like the idea of doing 3 courses though.

I'm with P-S on this one, surely the way in which people interpret the base ingredient allows the competition to be much more interesting, but without making it too limitless?
