Just having a debate with the missus as we're going to her cousins on Saturday night to watch some films and have some takeaway..

They've suggested Chinese, which is ok but a bit bland as I only like a couple of dishes.

I said that I'll probably have a kebab, which the missus then gave me a look of disgust.

Now, when I have a kebab, I have grilled shish, with onion, lettuce and coleslaw, nothing else.

When I have Chinese, I have chicken curry with egg fried rice and prawn crackers and sometimes share some prawn toast with the missus.

So, ignoring social awkwardness of having a kebab and not being smashed, which is worse for you? Kebab or Chinese?

I would say, going by the Kebab you have, that that is the healthier option. Chinese tends to have a lot of MSG as well.

On a related note, have you tried beef in oyster sauce? If not, try it. lick

I don't really like fish/fishy tastes so that would put me odd immediately.

Never been proven to be harmful to humans, and also is actually a naturally occurring substance in many foods. A common misconception that it is harmful if that is what you are implying...

Depends what you order, boiled/stemaed rice, stir fry, vegy dishes etc

Stay away from the deep fried prawn balls and sugar sauce.

The named kebab will be healthier than virtually any chinese dish, with the exception of maybe something like chicken or veg chop suey.

Oyster sauce doesn't taste fishy.

A shish kebab amounting to grilled lean meat and veg with shredded salad and a pitta bread has to be the most healthy takeaway food there is.

Mrs Puggit is on the slimming world diet and her chicken kebab (just grilled chicken, pita bread and salad) has been endorsed by her slimming 'consultant' as worth just a few 'sin points'.

In terms of fat content alone i'd say the kebab was the safer option as the fat will drop out of the meat during grilling.

The chicken curry is bad news, when I make my own chinese curry sauce it contains an ounce of butter per person and is still less oiley than a take away.

Have you seen the take away (pictures) thread. Its almost as if cooking a donna adds fat.

"grilled shish, with onion, lettuce and coleslaw, nothing else"

Doner kebab, all bets off!
