Re-enamlling those fancy saucepans
Discussion
I have been given a load of le Creuset cast iron pans and oven dishes but they are pretty tatty (few paint chips and the linings are generally discoloured and scratched). Le Creuset say they don't offer a re-enamelling service.
Anybody any idea where I might get them re-conditioned or should I just weigh them at the local scrappie?

It's possible to restore discoloured Le Creuset linings; I did it by boiling up some Vanish in a burnt saucepan but wouldn't recommend it unless you have all the windows open, the fumes made me feel very unwell. Other (probably safer) methods exist, Google will find them.
Chipped enamel is 'character', they all do that sir...

To bring the insides back to as "new condition" fill the pans with hot water and add a decent splash of bleach. Leave overnight.
In the morning the white/ cream enamel will look like new.
I imagine the french would be abhorred by this practice as the discolouration inside the pans would mean that the pans are "seasoned" but I prefer my pans clean rather than looking like the interior wall of a sherry barrel.
Cheers,
Tony
