As I seem to spend a high percentage of my free time running up and down the country by major routes, I thought I would throw this open to the masses to recommend somewhere you can get a quick bite yet still avoid the cullinary hell that exists in most motorway services. I have noticed over the last few years, that some of the older, good places have either closed or become "mainstream" so it is harder to find a decent place. I include decent tea vans just off motorway junctions in this (my favourite, the one on the "on" ramp heading north from the A66 onto the A1 at Scotch Corner was missing the last time I did that journey (although to be fair the quality had gone down after new owners took it on).

So, can anybody recommend cheap and cheerful bacon roll/breakfast places near the main routes, and if they are 24 hour say so as that would be much more useful.

I will start it off with a couple:
The Little Red Rooster cafe near the petrol station at M6 Jct 40 Penrith. Good food, but not 24 hour.
The transport Cafe on the A1 Southbound near Doncaster (next to the BP petrol station) but again not 24 hour.

So, any other recommendations?

Years back I bought a book about just this subject, I'll post the ISBN and title when I remember.
